UK NARIC at Asia-Europe meeting, Jakarta, 3-5 June

UK NARIC is attending the 3rd ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Intermediate Senior Officials’ Meeting (ISOM) in Jakarta, Indonesia, 3-5 June.

This ASEM meeting is the latest in the ongoing Asia-Europe dialogue, and particularly the Asia-Europe dialogue in education, which is strategically important for the UK and supports UK-Asia relations and education links.

UK NARIC is part of the UK delegation. The meeting will consider presentations on ‘recognition and quality assurance’, ’balanced mobility’ and ‘engaging business and industries, lifelong learning and TVET’.

Progress will be reported on key initiatives since the 6th ASEM Education Ministers’ Meeting (ASEMME-6) in Seoul, South Korea, which was held in November 2017. Initiatives and proposals for endorsement at the next Ministers’ Meeting, ASEMME-7, will be discussed.

UK NARIC is represented by its head of stakeholder engagement, Tim Buttress, on behalf of UK NARIC CEO Dr Cloud Bai-Yun.

UK NARIC continues to do important work in UK-Asia educational collaboration and provides essential support to the development of international recognition practice and qualification frameworks in the Asia-Pacific regions.

Cloud is one of the founding members of the ASEM (Asia-Europe) Bridging Declaration committee, established under the Asia-Europe education framework to develop international recognition practice.

A significant output of this work is the CBQAN, the Cross-Border Quality Assurance Network in Higher Education, which is devising frameworks to help develop quality assurance and high quality communication in cross-border education and transnational education (TNE).

This will further support UK TNE efforts in Asia-Pacific, and all cross-border education collaboration in the regions.
